Scanography
Throughout the Course “Experimental photographic processes” we used the scanner as a means of creating experimental images. Students will experiment with different types of materials: reflective, opaque, translucent, and photographic. Each material brings new possibilities and explores motion, layering, color, texture, and narrative.
Utilize the scanner as a photographic tool capable of creating quality images
Develop a working knowledge of photographic software
Present a better understanding of color, composition, and other design principles and how they apply to image production
Learn to explore and develop themes and issues through scanning, editing, and creating a series of works
Emotive Experiments
In this project we were given a random emotion. With that emotion I had to create a continuous scanned piece that will evoke the feelings of the specific word we received. My word was, sentimental. With the word sentimental, I focused on the life of Vincent van Gogh and evoking the feeling of sentimental from his paintings he created and his life.
My process of this project started with using mosaic tiles and sliding them on the scanner to give a Van Gogh affect on each scan. After scanning the mosaics, I scanned van goths paintings and was able to play with how it paintings have a story, showing the sentimental side of his work.
Texture, Depth & Brand
Students will create a series of images that mimic or mock (parody) an existing brand, company, franchise by exploring depth, texture, text, and commercial imagery. Choosing objects that contrast one another and create visual tension is encouraged.
The company that I chose was Board Riders. They are a company that holds multiple popular surf and skate brands such as: Roxy, Quicksilver, Element, and DC. Throughout this project I used physical elements and photos to make a collage inspired posters to promote each brand under Board Riders.
